About The Position

Adjunct Instructors are responsible for the facilitation of student learning and the on-going development of instructional strategies that promote student success. This role involves fostering student learning through various delivery methodologies, assessing student progress, managing the classroom environment, and engaging with the college community and industry partners. The position also requires serving as an advocate for students and maintaining professional development to stay current with occupational practices and teaching methods.

Requirements

  • Technical Diploma required (Associate degree or Bachelor's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of two (2) years full-time (or 4,000 total hours if part-time) of occupational experience in a target job for the program or programs being taught.
  • One year (or 2,000 hours) shall be within five (5) years prior to the date of appointment.
  • One year (or 2,000 hours) may be waived for occupational instructors with at least two (2) years of post-secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within five (5) years prior to the date of appointment.
  • Law Enforcement Academy Adjunct applicants must have at a minimum completed the Department of Justice’s Instructor Development course, and possess the proper certifications from the Department of Justice for the Academy topics being taught.
  • Ability to plan, organize, instruct, and facilitate quality education programs, including development of relevant curriculum.
  • Upon hire, must maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required by other agencies to maintain individual and program accreditation, if applicable.
  • Proficiency utilizing learning management system.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Adapt quickly to changing demands, assignments, and circumstances to meet student needs.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with various audiences.
  • Engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by embracing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years occupational experience preferred.
  • Teaching or training experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement.
  • Employ learning experiences that integrate multiple delivery methodologies and instructional technologies to maximize student success, such as hybrid, in-person, virtual, and on-line course delivery.
  • Assess student learning and provide regular feedback to help students be successful.
  • Use data to measure quality outcomes related to course success and learning and implement improvement strategies based on the evidence.
  • Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student/engagement evaluation.
  • Support the college by engaging with the department, as well as staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives.
  • Build and maintain ongoing relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners.
  • Proactively promote the College and our programs.
  • Serve as an advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services staff to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students be successful.
  • Continually improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends, current occupational practices and teaching through professional development activities, and current employment in the field.
  • Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required to maintain individual and program accreditation.
  • If needed, develop curriculum and instructional materials that are competency-based, current, consistent with employer expectations, and aligned with the college policy on the level of required documentation.
