About The Position

Alexandria Technical & Community College’s Police Training & Education program is a Minnesota POST‑certified, professional program that combines rigorous academic coursework with extensive hands‑on, scenario‑based training using industry‑standard equipment and technology. The college offers multiple pathways—including AAS and AS degrees, a Career Transition Diploma, and Skills Certificate—serving both traditional students and career‑changing professionals. Requirements

  • Associate's degree with a major in law enforcement or criminal justice.
  • Four full-time years (or equivalent) of verified related paid work experience in law enforcement, a maximum of two years of this experience may be in corrections.
  • One year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field. The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.
  • POST (Peace Officers Standards and Training Board of Minnesota) eligible, or a Federal licensed agent with the powers of arrest, the completion of a basic course recognized by a state council, state commission, state board, or state agency which leads to licensing or basic certification as a law enforcement officer, including but not limited to the basic Drug Enforcement Administration's Agent school, the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Basic Agent school or the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center's uniform patrol course or basic investigators course.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or law enforcement related field from a regionally accredited college
  • 8 years of full-time Minnesota POST licensed experience
  • 5 years of primary patrol related responsibilities within the past 10 years
  • Currently certified as a Firearms Instructor.
  • Background in tactical response
  • Experience in Teaching and Training
  • BrightSpace or a similar online student learning system
  • Working with diverse populations of Minnesota

Responsibilities

  • Full-time instructional position in the Police Training & Education program.
  • Effectively instruct in a variety of areas pertaining to the Law Enforcement profession in both a lecture-based and hands-on environment.
  • Additional responsibilities include curriculum development, professional development, student academic advising, service to the college and student recruiting.
