About The Position

Utah Valley University is seeking a Humanities Instructor to design and teach courses in the field of study. The instructor will plan, prepare, and follow an approved course of study with measurable objectives, create instructional materials, and evaluate student learning. A student-oriented approach, recommendations for student advancement, and adherence to academic freedom policies are expected. Fostering an inclusive environment is also a key aspect of the role.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree (or equivalent credit hours) in Philosophy, Religion, English, Ethics, or a closely related field in the humanities.
• Knowledge of subject matter and course content of classes to be taught, instructional strategies and techniques; student management, motivation, and evaluation.
• Thorough knowledge of the appropriate field of study.
• Effective human relations skills and communication techniques.
• Ability to apply general principles effectively to specific conditions; to work effectively with people; to communicate both orally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience in instructional design and online education are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design and teach courses in the field of study.
• Plan, prepare, and follow an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught.
• Prepare instructional materials (course outlines, syllabi, exams, mock-ups, visual aids, and instruction sheets) as necessary.
• Evaluate instruction and learning utilizing appropriate testing methods.
• Maintain a student-oriented approach to education.
• Recommend students for advancement and graduation.
• Be familiar with the academic freedom and professional responsibility statement and adhere to these policies.
• Foster an environment of inclusivity open to diverse opinions and perspectives.
