About The Position

UMGC is hiring an Adjunct Faculty member to teach Business Management courses on-site at Kadena Air Base and Camp Foster in Okinawa. This position is for local applicants only. Applicants must maintain their own legal status in the country where they teach; UMGC does not provide logistical support. Candidates must be able to travel reliably to assigned locations and fulfill on-site responsibilities. Some locations may not be accessible by public transportation. UMGC serves nontraditional learners worldwide, including a large military-affiliated population. Adjunct Faculty members help students connect course concepts with real-world career experience through mentoring, facilitation, and feedback. Courses use a standardized, pre-designed curriculum with provided rubrics, open educational resources, library materials, and digital textbooks. Newly hired faculty receive online orientation and ongoing professional development. Courses may be delivered face-to-face, online (asynchronous and/or synchronous), in hybrid formats, or by live streaming, depending on location and academic program. Most courses run in accelerated eight-week sessions, and enrollment varies by course and location. The role requires a substantial commitment throughout the term to students’ academic, social, personal, and professional growth. Applicants must hold a master’s degree in Business Management or a closely related field from an accredited institution and have relevant academic and/or professional experience. They must demonstrate sufficient written and spoken English proficiency to teach, communicate with students, and evaluate academic work. A student-centered approach grounded in empathy, flexibility, professional integrity, and cultural responsiveness is expected. The hiring range is $903–$1,173 per credit hour for non-PhD faculty and $931–$1,215 per credit hour for PhD faculty. Newly hired adjunct faculty are generally appointed at Step 1; advancement is subject to UMGC policies and eligibility requirements.
