About The Position

The University of Southern Mississippi is accepting applications for adjunct teaching opportunities in the Division of Marine Science within the School of Ocean Science and Engineering. The school includes academic programs in marine science, hydrographic science, and ocean engineering. Courses may be delivered at the Stennis Space Center location or the Gulf Park Campus in Long Beach, Mississippi, depending on the course.

Adjunct faculty deliver instruction, assess coursework, grade, and communicate with students. They may work with teaching assistants to deliver laboratory or practical course sections and perform other duties as assigned. Faculty must complete a qualification assessment for each course they teach.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without visa sponsorship. The University does not sponsor work visas.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in a related field for undergraduate-level courses.
• A master’s degree in a related field for graduate-level courses.
• Complete a faculty qualification assessment to teach each particular course.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work in a multi-priority environment.
• Ability to treat confidential information with sensitivity.

Responsibilities

• Deliver course instruction as detailed in course syllabi.
