About The Position

The Adjunct Faculty member teaches Security in the Cloud (CMIT 436) in the Department of Cybersecurity at the University of Maryland Global Campus. The course is a hands-on study of cybersecurity and methods for securing critical assets in cloud environments, applying the principles of confidentiality, integrity, and availability to digital resources. This role is specifically remote for stateside applicants; applicants must be local, and UMGC does not provide logistical support. Courses use a standardized, pre-designed model with rubrics, open educational resources, library resources, and digital textbooks provided. Faculty focus on mentoring, facilitating learning, and giving high-quality feedback rather than building courses. Teaching is asynchronous, with flexibility over daily hours provided weekly grading, responsiveness, and engagement milestones are met. Courses run in eight-week sessions, are worth three credits, and typically enroll 25–35 students. The role requires substantial engagement throughout the term, supporting students' academic, social, personal, and professional growth. Newly hired faculty receive online orientation and ongoing professional development.
