About The Position

This is a part-time position teaching Geog 111 and GEOG 113 during the 2026-2027 academic year at Virginia Wesleyan University (soon to be Batten University). GEOG 111 is required core coursework for degrees in education and special education and GEOG 113 is a Major requirement for History and Social Science. The adjunct instructor will teach in person during the day or early evening. This description is to be regarded as a general overview of the responsibilities required for this position. It is not intended as a contractual agreement; other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Geography or M.S. with 18 graduate hours in Geography.
  • Teaching experience is preferred.
  • Willingness to learn and use Blackboard, the University Learning Management System.
  • Strong communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. and demonstrated experience in teaching college-level Geography

Responsibilities

  • Prepare syllabi that meet the VWU syllabus guidelines and provide these to students on the first day of class. Syllabi should also be provided to department chairs.
  • Be on time and prepared for class sessions and grade, provide feedback, and return assignments within a reasonable time period.
  • Communicate with students via office hours and email.
  • Submit mid-term reports, final grades, and C- reports per guidelines provided by the University Registrar.
  • Comply with FERPA regulations.
  • Coordinate with Campus support services as needed to support students.
