About The Position

Lesley University's Department of Social Sciences and Humanities is seeking a highly qualified adjunct faculty member to teach CLANG 1701 - American Sign Language I for the Fall Semester 2026. This in-person, on-campus course will be held on Tuesdays and Fridays from 8:00 am to 9:15 am. The course will introduce basic skills in American Sign Language (ASL) and fingerspelling, including the use of facial expressions as punctuation. Topics will also cover Deaf culture, its criticism from the medical profession, and the education of Deaf children.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in American Sign Language, Deaf Studies, or a closely related field
  • Experience teaching ASL at the college level
  • Native or near-native proficiency in American Sign Language
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Deaf culture, Deaf history, and contemporary issues affecting the Deaf community
  • Demonstrated commitment to communicative, student-centered, inclusive, and equitable language teaching practices
