About The Position

The Adjunct Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) Instructor provides classroom, laboratory, and/or clinical instruction in an AVMA-CVTEA accredited Veterinary Technology program. This position mentors students, supports the development of clinical competence and professional skills, and ensures instruction aligns with program learning outcomes, accreditation standards, and current veterinary medical practices.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with primary duties providing services in a clinical (public or private) setting.
  • Must have educational qualifications to teach in subject area or have documented specialty education/experience to meet tested experience requirements, as per the Higher Learning commission’s publication on Determining Qualified Faculty and provide leadership in academic discipline and/or degree program.
  • Registered DVM in Oklahoma
  • Teaching Competence – Must be able to create lesson plans, content, presentations, ancillary materials, and assignments to effectively transform information to knowledge for students; have the ability to assess student learning and progress.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively with high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • High degree of initiative to work independently and collaborate in a team environment.
  • Communication skills – Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with clear, grammatically correct English; requires interaction with supervisors, colleagues, students, alumni, advisory committee members, and the public, using tact, discretion, and independent judgment.
  • Computer skills – Must be demonstrably proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel), as well as e-mail and internet, and learning management systems.
  • Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU-OKC and OSU brand with positivity and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated history of ethical and professional behavior.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching at the college level.
  • Experience with public speaking (CE presentations, new employee training, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Maintain syllabus, assignments, and exams as necessary (in Canvas and paper documents).
  • Communicate progress in the course to students in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of students’ attendance and progress and provide them to administration in accordance with established institutional policies and procedures.
  • Participate in student retention and persistence efforts.
  • Support the mission of the program, division, and college.
  • Foster a safe and effective teaching and learning environment.
  • Exhibit innovative and adaptive instructional methods.
  • Maintain a presence in the online classroom (virtual or hybrid courses).
  • Completes all mandatory University training.
  • Fulfill all requirements as noted in the Adjunct Handbook.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
