About The Position

The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) is seeking dynamic, motivated, and diverse candidates for part-time faculty positions to engage and educate students in Noncredit Basic Skills Reading & Writing courses. This posting is to create a pool of qualified applicants for the 2027 Academic School Year. Successful candidates will collaborate, communicate, and work professionally with students, staff, faculty, and administrators. Applicants with a demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse student population are strongly encouraged to apply. Qualified applicants may be offered an interview with Noncredit Education Department members at one or more of LACCD’s 9 colleges. Final determinations of part-time Interdisciplinary Basic Skills (Noncredit) Instructor assignments are contingent upon enrollment, funding, and class availability. Faculty may be required to conduct classes in a virtual learning environment using Canvas, hybrid, or hyflex modalities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, literature, comparative literature, composition, linguistics, speech, creative writing or journalism; OR Bachelor’s degree in any discipline and twelve semester units of coursework in teaching reading.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college faculty, staff, and students.
  • Must provide vaccination status in compliance with LACCD Board of Trustees’ policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual Certificate - California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
  • Possession of a California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in the subject matter.
  • Ability to design and contextualize Reading and Writing competencies through workforce aligned materials for various industries, such as Construction, Culinary, STEM, Business, and other Career Sectors; Adult Basic Education, (Grades 1-8); Adult Secondary Education, (Grades 9-12); General Education Development (GED) Testing; Comprehensive Adult Students Assessment System (CASAS) Testing; Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) Testing; Competency-Based Skills Development & Remediation.
  • Experience in teaching specialized populations, including Dual Enrollment, Justice-Involved, Foster or Court-Impacted Youth, LGBTQ, speakers of other languages, undocumented students, and individuals with different learning abilities.
  • Demonstrated certification in Canvas or other online modalities.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a range of Noncredit Reading and Writing related courses within the Basic Skills discipline.
  • Promote engaging and inclusive educational environments that support student learning.
  • Be culturally responsive in interactions with students, faculty, staff, and community members who span a diverse range of languages, nationalities and ethnicities, socio-economic levels, ages, identities, abilities and educational experiences.
  • Conduct classes in a virtual learning environment using Canvas, hybrid, or hyflex modalities to support remote learning, if required.

Benefits

  • Salary schedule for adjunct noncredit instructors begins at $81.81 per standard hour.
