About The Position

Under general supervision, performs all duties of Ad Valorem Tax Cashier as required by the Treasurer’s office by state statutes and educating taxpayers regarding these procedures. Processes property tax payments, certifies mortgage tax payments, processes depository and miscellaneous receipt transactions for other county offices, sells motor vehicle & farm implement stamps, issues mobile home decals, enters omitted and early certification records for mobile homes to the tax rolls, makes address changes, researches return mail, updates mortgage code information, and balances cash drawer. Checks payments for accuracy that are worked up by other areas of the office. Keeps statutes and office policy in mind when making decisions to accept transactions. Handles large amounts of cash and checks. Performs other duties as assigned which may include going to remote locations the first 3 weeks of December to accept tax payments. Under general supervision, the cashier performs the following duties on a rotating basis (approximately every 4 months.): Consolidates each cashier’s individual balancing totals into daily departmental totals to be turned into bookkeeping. Balances all the receipts taken for the day. Ensures the daily workload is processed smoothly. Assists employees with questions and balancing as needed. Reports and assists in the corrections of cashier balancing errors. Using a template, schedules cashier department’s lunches and breaks. Researches and works items on daily audit and mobile home reports.

Requirements

  • Good public relation skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to become knowledgeable of state statutes, office policies and procedures, and the functions of other county offices
  • Familiarity with the use of personal computers and have at a minimum beginning Word and Excel skills
  • Numeric 10 key by touch speed of at least 5,000 keystrokes per hour
  • Typing speed of 40 wpm
  • Ability to operate other office equipment satisfactorily including copiers, fax machines, typewriters, credit card machines, currency counters and scanning equipment
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy
  • Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal individuals, taxpayers, and other external customers of the Treasurer’s Office
  • Ability to trouble shoot problem scenarios and come up with viable solutions
