About The Position
The Student Nurse Tech provides multi-skilled, direct patient care under the direction and supervision of a registered professional nurse. The role requires completion of a foundational nursing skills course or equivalent, such as fundamentals, foundations, or adult/pediatric health. The position is in Acute Care Medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, which cares for patients with a broad range of clinical conditions. Care is delivered by a multidisciplinary team that includes physicians, nurses, patient care technicians, and support professionals. The position requires a minimum commitment of two shifts every six weeks. Applicants with an interest in a long-term career in Acute Medicine are sought.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an accredited RN nursing program; ADN, BSN, or MSN programs are noted in the additional information.
- Completed nursing fundamentals or an equivalent foundational nursing skills course.
- Commit to a minimum of two shifts every six weeks.
Nice To Haves
- Nursing graduates of August 2027 and beyond are preferred.
- Enrolled in an accredited BSN program.
- Long-term interest in Acute Medicine.
Responsibilities
- Assist the nurse with patient and family education.
- Document all patient care activities using correct medical terminology.
- Act as a 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
- Ensure supplies and equipment are available to meet each patient's needs.
- Implement direct patient care under the supervision of the nursing team.
- Collect clinical data and information on patients and report abnormal findings to the nurse.
- Instruct patients in preparations for tests and procedures.
