About The Position

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital is hiring a PRN Student Nurse Tech for its Med/Surg 2 unit, which cares for patients with orthopedic, spine, urological, plastics, and other general post-surgical conditions. The position provides multi-skilled, direct patient care under the direction and supervision of a registered professional nurse. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited RN program and have completed the first semester of a nursing program and a clinical, as well as a foundational nursing skills course or equivalent. No prior experience or supervisory experience is required.

The hospital provides specialized surgical and medical services in a patient-centered setting. The Med/Surg 2 unit works with a multidisciplinary team that includes nurses, physicians, a case manager, social worker, physical therapist, dietitian, pharmacist, and patient care technicians. The PRN schedule requires at least three shifts per six-week schedule, with shifts picked up around the student's school schedule, including weekends.

Requirements

• Be enrolled in an accredited RN program.
• Complete the first semester of a nursing program and a clinical.
• Complete a foundational nursing skills course or equivalent, such as fundamentals, foundations, or adult/pediatric health.
• Work at least three shifts per six-week schedule, including weekend shifts as scheduled around school.
• No prior experience is required.
• No supervisory experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist nurses with patient and family education.
• Document patient care activities using correct medical terminology.
• Act as a 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
• Ensure supplies and equipment are available to meet patient needs.
• Implement direct patient care under the supervision of the nursing team.
• Collect clinical data and information on patients and report abnormal findings to the nurse.
• Instruct patients in preparations for tests and procedures.
