The Standard's summer internship program for future actuaries provides opportunities for students to gain exposure to the actuarial profession and the company’s culture, learn about various insurance products and actuarial functions, and work with actuaries from across the organization. Interns will learn about actuarial practices and gain insight into other operational areas including IT, Underwriting, HR, Claims, and Marketing through leader lunches and speaker series. The program operates in a flexibility-first environment that combines the best parts of remote work with an intentional focus on building a diverse community and strong teams across the country. Interns will be assigned to work in one of the actuarial teams – Employee Benefits, Retirement Plans, Individual Disability Insurance, Individual Annuities, Actuarial Transformation or Corporate Actuarial and Risk Management. Assignment may include work in product development, pricing, valuation, experience studies, monthly and quarterly financial reporting, production reporting, systems testing, process automation, and modeling. Interns work full time during the internship. It is expected that the internship will be fully remote with an opportunity to be in the office if circumstances allow. At the end of the internship, each actuarial intern leads a presentation outlining their projects, experiences, and learnings from the summer to a group of actuarial leaders from across the organization. Interns set to graduate within a year of completing their internship will be considered for placement in the actuarial student rotation program upon graduation.
