Actuarial Internship - Summer 2027 - Hybrid
About The Position
TruStage is seeking an Actuarial Intern for Summer 2027 at its corporate headquarters in Madison, WI. This hybrid role offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to the insurance and financial services industry, working on meaningful projects within property and casualty, life and annuities, and retirement and pension areas. The internship is designed to help early-career actuaries explore their career path and build relationships within the company and community. Interns will contribute to TruStage's mission of creating a brighter financial future for everyone, with opportunities to work on individual or team-based projects and interact with senior leadership. The role emphasizes attention to detail, a willingness to learn, independence, and clear communication.
Requirements
- Working towards a relevant degree or equivalent work experience
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Demonstrated interpersonal and customer service skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Intellectual curiosity and the desire to learn
Nice To Haves
- Pursuit of a bachelor’s degree or higher in Actuarial Science, Risk Management & Insurance, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, or related field
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including formulas, PivotTables, lookup functions, and data validation techniques used to support actuarial analysis, spreadsheet maintenance, and reporting.
- Passed 1 or more SOA or CAS actuarial exams (but not required)
- Prior internship experience (but not required)
Responsibilities
- Supporting property & casualty, life, annuity, retirement, or health practice areas
- Creating and running actuarial programs on PolySystems, GGY Axis, ResQ, Python, SQL, or R
- Maintaining and enhancing spreadsheets
- Visualizing data in Power BI or Excel
- Performing experience studies to set reasonable actuarial assumptions
- Calculating interest rates and dividends
- Pricing, reserving, or modeling
- Making recommendations
- Presenting and explaining your work to others
