About The Position

Join TruStage at our corporate headquarters in Madison, WI as an Actuarial Intern! TruStage has product lines in the property and casualty, life and annuities, and retirement and pension areas. It is the perfect place for an actuary who is early in their career and unsure about whether to pursue a designation with the Society of Actuaries or the Casualty Actuarial Society. Our internship will help you build relationships within our walls and out in the community. You will help us create a more innovative and equitable financial system—ensuring a brighter financial future is accessible to everyone. We are looking for an analytical individual with a demonstrated understanding of actuarial and statistical concepts. The Actuarial Intern will be an active member of a team and do meaningful work to help the company further its mission of creating a brighter financial future for everyone. Work may be part of a larger project with multiple contributors or individually driven. In this internship, you will gain exposure to a corporate environment and have access to senior leadership. Attention to detail, willingness to learn from mistakes, independence, and clear communication are necessary to succeed in this internship.

Requirements

  • Working towards a relevant degree or equivalent work experience
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Intellectual curiosity and the desire to learn

Nice To Haves

  • Pursuit of a bachelor’s degree or higher in Actuarial Science, Risk Management & Insurance, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, or related field
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including formulas, PivotTables, lookup functions, and data validation techniques used to support actuarial analysis, spreadsheet maintenance, and reporting.
  • Passed 1 or more SOA or CAS actuarial exams (but not required)
  • Prior internship experience (but not required)

Responsibilities

  • Supporting property & casualty, life, annuity, retirement, or health practice areas
  • Creating and running actuarial programs on PolySystems, GGY Axis, ResQ, Python, SQL, or R
  • Maintaining and enhancing spreadsheets
  • Visualizing data in Power BI or Excel
  • Performing experience studies to set reasonable actuarial assumptions
  • Calculating interest rates and dividends
  • Pricing, reserving, or modeling
  • Making recommendations
  • Presenting and explaining your work to others
