About The Position

The Actuarial Intern will work closely with Actuaries on reserving, pricing, and risk management projects supporting Safety National’s business. The intern will research, analyze, build, and present actuarial concepts and models to department leaders and teams. Work may include reviewing and maintaining existing models or partnering on the development of new models. The intern will apply coursework in mathematics, statistics, finance, business, and risk management to real-world business questions and collaborate across the enterprise. A mentor and manager will support the intern’s development, while the intern remains responsible for their own development and achievements.

The internship is available to candidates who can work part-time during the spring 2027 semester and full-time during summer 2027, or who can work full-time only during summer 2027, from May 17, 2027 through July 30, 2027. The position is on-site at Safety National’s headquarters in Saint Louis, Missouri.

Requirements

• Be a graduate student or currently enrolled student in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a similar program.
• Have completed 30 or more credit hours and have an expected graduation date no earlier than December 2028.
• Have a foundational understanding of actuarial models, insurance industry principles, and risk management.
• Be proficient in advanced mathematics, including calculus and discrete distributions.
• Be able to clearly articulate complex topics to a wide variety of audiences.
• Be able to work on-site at the headquarters at 1832 Schuetz Rd., Saint Louis, MO 63146.
• Be presently authorized to work in the United States without requiring work authorization sponsorship by the company now or in the future.
• Be available part-time during the spring 2027 semester and full-time during summer 2027, or full-time only from May 17, 2027 through July 30, 2027.

Nice To Haves

• Prior work or internship experience.
• Familiarity with SQL programming, including scripting and queries.
• Passed or scheduled actuarial exams such as Exam P – Probability or Exam FM – Financial Mathematics.
• Exposure to additional programming languages, such as VBA, Python, SAS, or R.
