About The Position

Alachua Academy is a moderate-risk residential commitment program for girls aged 13 to 18, providing comprehensive care, treatment, supervision, and evidence-based intensive mental health and substance abuse services. Youth also receive psychotherapeutic services, including individual, family, and group counseling.

The Activities Coordinator, also described as a Recreational Therapist, plans, organizes, and facilitates leisure time, physical education, recreational activities, and community activities for youth. The role also plans and directs group activities that develop appropriate group interactions and behaviors, teamwork and fairness, interpersonal communication, and cooperation, while maintaining order and discipline during recreation periods.

The schedule is five days a week, eight hours a day. Compensation is $50,000 annually. The employer describes the opportunity as a chance to create a positive, safe, and supportive environment for youth and build a career with growth opportunities.

Requirements

• At least one year of experience in group physical education, recreational programs, or recreational therapy; alternatively, a high school diploma and three years of experience working with youth in a residential or community setting.
• Two years of experience planning and overseeing recreational activities.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check, drug screening, and TB test.
