About The Position

The Activities Assistant helps implement and carry out an activity program for facility residents, supporting their engagement and well-being through group and one-to-one activities. The role works with the Activity Coordinator, assists residents with participation, maintains attendance records, communicates residents’ status, and may contribute to care planning and special events. This position has access to protected health information in residents’ financial and medical records as needed to perform job duties.

Requirements

• Experience in long-term care is required; experience in a recreational setting is preferred.
• Interest in people and ability to communicate ideas, instruct residents, and communicate with them appropriately.
• Ability to direct and perform a variety of activities and respond to varied resident needs.
• Ability to motivate residents and promote their well-being through direct activities.
• Ability to interpret feelings, ideas, or facts from a personal viewpoint.
• Ability to evaluate residents’ progress and accurately report it to the Activities Coordinator.
• Imagination and creativity.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Activity Coordinator in implementing and executing an activity program for all facility residents.
• Lead group activities as assigned by the Activity Coordinator.
• Provide one-to-one activities for residents who cannot participate in a group setting.
• Assist with planning the activity program through the Resident’s Council and Activity Coordinator.
• Maintain attendance sheets for participants.
• Assist residents to and from activities.
• Communicate residents’ status to the Activity Coordinator.
• May attend interdisciplinary care plan team meetings and document in care plans and progress notes.
• May arrange movies, live entertainment for special programs, and group outings such as picnics, ball games, or sightseeing.
• Assign duties and delegate responsibilities to volunteers.
