The Center for Health Equity & Community Wellness (CHECW) aims to eliminate racial and other inequities that lead to premature mortality. CHECW operates with a deep understanding of history and structural analysis, highlighting the harm caused by centuries of racist and socially unjust policies, and working towards redress for the most impacted NYC communities. The center collaborates with community, faith-based, and healthcare organizations to address inequities across community and healthcare systems. CHECW focuses on social determinants of health, including environmental and commercial factors, and tackles both upstream and downstream issues to enhance the health and well-being of New Yorkers. The division includes the Bureau of Bronx Neighborhood Health, the Bureau of Brooklyn Neighborhood Health, the Bureau of Harlem Neighborhood Health, the Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention, the Bureau of Equitable Health Systems, and the Bureau of Finance and Administrative Services. The Deputy Commissioner of the division also serves as the Agency's Chief Equity Officer and oversees Race to Justice, an internal reform effort to equip staff to better address racial health disparities and improve health outcomes for all New Yorkers. The NYC Health Department is seeking an Action Center Manager for the newly established Bureau of Queens Neighborhood Health. This Bureau will support the broader Neighborhood Health Strategy and complement the work of similar Bureaus in Brooklyn, Harlem, and the Bronx. Reporting to the Assistant Commissioner, the Action Center Manager will lead the Jamaica Health Action Center, overseeing its development and launch.
