About The Position

Bose Labs is seeking a creative, curious, hands-on Acoustics Engineer to establish and enhance physical reference designs for wearable applications, including audio, noise cancellation, and voice experiences. The position spans multiple projects with near-term and long-term goals and combines acoustics work with laboratory measurements, small prototype builds, and simple fixture or mechanical-component design. At the intersection of research and product development, the engineer will translate foundational technologies and technical concepts into practical, scalable engineering solutions that can support licensable technologies and Bose-branded product development. The successful candidate will work across several parallel projects in a small cross-functional team, using analytical, empirical, and hands-on methods to address ambiguous problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Acoustical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in acoustical engineering, including measurements and analysis.
  • Experience designing or measuring acoustical transducers, including micro-drivers, MEMS microphones, and MEMS vibration sensors.
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, and measuring physical prototypes and associated fixtures.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB or an equivalent environment for measurement and data analysis.
  • Experience using lumped-parameter and FEA acoustical simulation tools such as COMSOL, PSPICE, Simulink/SIMSPEAKER, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate ambiguous problems into actionable engineering tasks.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information verbally and in written reports and documents to peers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience specifying acoustical system and component requirements, such as micro-drivers, microphones, and acoustic meshes.
  • Experience using acoustical test equipment from B&K, GRAS, Audio Precision, National Instruments, Listen Inc., or similar.

Nice To Haves

  • Critical listening skills for subjective evaluation of music, noise cancellation, and voice.
  • Algorithm development and DSP deployment in audio, noise cancellation, voice, or a similar domain.
  • Experience with wearable acoustic structures and enclosure/port design for audio and noise-reduction applications.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and documentation of existing and new mechanical/acoustical reference designs for wearable devices.
  • Use simulation tools to predict acoustical system behavior.
  • Design and execute acoustical experiments to verify or supplement simulation results.
  • Build and test mock-up prototypes to gain fundamental and directional insights.
  • Measure transducer components, subsystems, and full concept assemblies, and analyze data to synthesize conclusions.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, DSP, electrical, and software engineers to understand system-level requirements and dependencies.
  • Identify system-level tradeoffs, risks, guardrails, and dependencies for product development teams to consider.
  • Present concepts, experimental results, recommendations, and technical risks through peer reviews, design reviews, written documentation, and stakeholder demonstrations.
  • Coordinate across research, product development, and business-unit organizations to align on deliverables.

Benefits

  • Bonus programs
  • Comprehensive health and welfare benefits
  • 401(k) plan
  • Exclusive wellbeing perks
  • Employee discount
