Acoustics DSP Engineer

Apple•Cupertino, CA

About The Position

The Acoustics DSP Engineer will work on Apple’s Audio System Tuning team to ensure audio software is correctly integrated with acoustic hardware in Apple devices. The role is responsible for Audio DSP optimization for voice-recognition applications across iOS, macOS, and wireless Apple products. The engineer will be part of the Acoustic Hardware Team and collaborate day to day with Audio Tuning Engineers, DSP algorithm teams, and machine-learning teams. The successful candidate will tune, optimize, and evaluate internally developed algorithms for Apple hardware, focusing on advanced techniques that deliver a strong voice-recognition experience across Apple hardware. The position calls for close attention to detail, effective hardware and software debugging, and strong communication and collaboration while working with teams across Apple. Some international travel may be required.

Requirements

  • BS/MS degree or equivalent, preferably specializing in Audio or Electrical Engineering.
  • Solid understanding of acoustics and signal-processing fundamentals.
  • Experience executing and debugging scripts with Python and MATLAB.
  • Familiarity with acoustic measurement equipment, such as HeadAcqua Test System, Soundcheck, and audio analyzers.
  • In-depth Audio DSP knowledge for audio applications, including echo and double talk, microphone-array processing, beam-forming, multi-band compression, equalization, and noise suppression in portable devices.
  • Excellent coding and debugging skills; Python and C/C++ are preferred.
  • Strong background applying machine-learning methods and frameworks to audio applications.
  • Experience tuning echo-cancellation algorithms and balancing echo return loss, double-talk performance, and speech intelligibility.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively in multifunctional teams.
