About The Position

The DHHS Financial Service Center is seeking an Accounts Payable Specialist to join the Accounts Payable Team. This position will contribute to the Department’s mission by helping us ensure state and federal funds are utilized in an efficient manner to meet the health and welfare needs of Maine’s citizens. The DHHS Financial Service Center is a supportive and friendly environment that fosters professional growth, teamwork, and collaboration with DHHS. Requirements

  • Entry-level to intermediate education, training, and/or experience in accounting or another closely related field demonstrating competency applying accounting principles, reviewing and processing business transactions, and preparing reports.
  • Possess good critical thinking skills, be flexible and adaptable to a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic understanding of accounting practices and controls and excellent attention to detail.
  • Prior experience and / or education which demonstrates knowledge of intermediate Excel functions and formulas to analyze data.
  • Prior experience and / or education which demonstrates knowledge of GAAP/ GASB, analyzing accounting data and accounting reconciliations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a quality review of invoices to ensure they are paid accurately.
  • Review, enter, process and reconcile documents required for invoice processing.
  • Adhere to applicable procedures, policies, federal requirements and state statutes.
  • Ensure accurate payment processing through the accounting systems by conducting quality assurance and approving invoices.
  • Collaborate with team members to improve processes, resolve issues and achieve department goals.
