About The Position

Emory University is hiring a temporary Accounts Payable Analyst to manage invoice processing and exception resolution for purchase order (PO) and non-PO transactions, reinforce accounts payable controls, and support financial close activities through accurate reporting and analysis. The role handles higher-complexity work and serves as an escalation point for problem invoices and expense-related exceptions. The analyst processes invoices and supplier requests, validates coding, approvals, and supporting documentation, and applies required verification and escalation procedures for sensitive supplier updates such as bank changes. The position also performs reconciliations, supports audits and month-end close, coordinates payment activities with Treasury, and develops AP reports and procedures. It provides informal coaching and quality checks for entry-level staff. The role may work from home regularly, but requires the ability to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based on business needs and department guidelines. Residency in Georgia is required. Emory may change the remote-work status with notice.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of college coursework and four years of accounts payable or related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience with exception resolution and close support.
  • Working knowledge of accounts payable controls, segregation of duties, and audit readiness.
  • Intermediate Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookups; power tools are a plus.
  • Comfort with ERP reporting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to partner cross-functionally and manage competing priorities.
  • Must reside in Georgia and be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily invoice intake and processing for PO and non-PO invoices, confirming accurate coding, documentation, and timely posting.
  • Process complex invoices, including multi-line, multi-entity, tax-sensitive, recurring, and credit or memo transactions; verify coding and approvals and resolve documentation gaps.
  • Review and post invoices and resolve exceptions and escalations, including issues related to employee reimbursement and expense activity.
  • Complete supplier setups and maintenance changes; validate supporting documentation and route sensitive changes through required verification and approval pathways.
  • Lead resolution of PO, receiving, and price variances in partnership with buyers, sourcing managers, departments, and suppliers, and address root causes to reduce recurrence.
  • Research escalated invoice and payment issues, including duplicates, disputed charges, and urgent payments, and communicate status, findings, and next steps to stakeholders.
  • Perform accounts payable reconciliations and respond to audit requests with documentation and explanations.
  • Prepare and review month-end close deliverables to support accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Execute payment-processing activities, including payment proposal review, payment holds and releases, and positive-pay review as applicable; coordinate timing, exceptions, and control adherence with Treasury.
  • Develop and maintain AP reports and dashboards covering aging, past-due items, discounts, exceptions, throughput, and touchless rate; share insights and recommendations with stakeholders.
  • Maintain and refine AP procedures and standard operating procedures; propose control improvements and automation opportunities such as e-invoicing, OCR, and workflow.
  • Coach and provide informal training to entry-level staff, perform quality checks, and share best practices.
  • Perform related responsibilities as required.
