About The Position

The Pueblo of Nambé, or Nanbé Owingeh, is one of the six Tewa-speaking pueblos of the northern Rio Grande region. It is located about 15 miles north of Santa Fe, at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. We are looking for an Accountant to join our Finance team focusing on Accounts Payable tasks. In this role you'll process payments, maintain vendor relationships, and help ensure the Pueblo's financial integrity — all while supporting a vibrant Pueblo community. This is an onsite role in the office of the Governor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least one year of accounting experience.
  • Familiarity with Accounts Payable processes and federal fund management preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Valid New Mexico driver's license.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.
  • Candidates must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred.
  • MIP accounting software knowledge is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, a customer service mindset, and team player.

Responsibilities

  • Process check requests, invoices, and purchase orders — verifying accuracy and compliance with financial policies.
  • Produce weekly check runs and reconcile credit and charge card accounts.
  • Enter and post accounts payable data into ledgers; maintain vendor files and open new accounts as needed.
  • Follow up on account discrepancies and serve as a liaison between departments and vendors.
  • Monitor blanket purchase orders and notify departments of remaining balances.
  • Process year-end 1099 forms, monthly billings for water and insurance, and travel arrangements.
  • Recommend process improvements and implement audit procedures to reduce internal loss.
  • Process travel request and make travel arrangements.
  • Provide excellent customer service when responding to questions and inquiries from all staff members and the public on departmental policies, procedures and objectives.
