About The Position

Under supervision, performs a variety of general accounting tasks to compile, prepare, review, and verify financial and statistical records in support of the Finance directorate. This role involves creating, organizing, maintaining, and updating files and records using various software and manual systems, maintaining an audit trail, and preparing accounting and financial reports. The position also requires classifying accounting transactions, summarizing data, and providing technical support to internal and external clients. Additionally, the Accounting Technician will abstract and present financial data, examine accounts for accuracy, and prepare reports on findings and necessary adjustments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two years of progressively responsible experience that demonstrates possession of accepted accounting principles and practices, experience with accounting software, accounting functions and performing accounting duties.
  • Intermediate experience with Excel.
  • Occasional lifting up to 20 lbs. may be required.

  • An Associate’s Degree in accounting from an accredited university.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of general accounting tasks to compile, prepare, review, and verify financial and statistical records.
  • Creates, organizes, maintains, and updates files and records utilizing database and spreadsheet software, other online applications, and manual systems.
  • Maintains an audit trail of documents and records.
  • Creates report formats and prepares necessary accounting and financial reports based on retrieved data.
  • Develops and maintains spreadsheets, journals, ledgers, logs, worksheets, and other records.
  • Classifies accounting transactions, verifying the accuracy and completeness of the accounting data.
  • Summarizes transactions and prepares control documents or other posting documents reflecting the entries to be made.
  • Communicates with and provides technical support to both internal and external clients by collecting and providing specialized information, answering questions, and assisting clients in interpreting and following proper accounting procedures.
  • Assists in training other staff in complying with proper procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Abstracts data reflecting financial condition and operating results and presents this data in the form of statements and reports.
  • Examines accounts to verify the accuracy of accounts and adequacy of supporting data.
  • Prepares worksheets or reports reflecting the examinations made, discrepancies noted, and the corrective entries required to adjust accounts.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
