About The Position

This position is open to Alaska Residents Only. The Alaska Psychiatric Institute (API) is recruiting for an Accounting Technician 1. Under the direction of Alaska Psychiatric Institute’s (API) Accountant 3, the Accounting Technician 1 performs technical and specialized examination of medical accounting and performs billing for institutional and professional claims using the EHR (Electronic Health Record) specialized custom psychiatric hospital software (MT – Meditech) through the B/AR (Billing/Accounts Receivable) module and billing through a 3rd party vendor clearinghouse (SSI) for electronic and paper submission of patient claims. API is an inpatient psychiatric hospital licensed and accredited as an 80-bed psychiatric hospital in the State of Alaska which has forensic, adult, and adolescent units to support the mentally ill population from a diverse demographic. The position will review, audit, and submit medical claims, following standards and guidelines set by the supervisor. In addition, this position will review denied medical claims for appeal or write-off and navigate payer portals and resources for clarification and appeal. Also, this position will enter and reconcile payments for medical claims in our hospital information system. This position is located at 3700 Piper Street in the U-MED district of east Anchorage which offers several maintained walking trails, parks and nearby lakes. This area is filled with several restaurants, shopping stores, and has easy access to public transportation.

Requirements

  • One year of clerical work experience maintaining records that included using computer systems and performing basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Knowledge of traditional accounting practices including accrual, obligations, and costs methods.
  • Knowledge of general ledger accounting and the control/subsidiary account relationships and reconciliation techniques, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and disbursing officer's accountability.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, and practices (for example, double entry accounting, accrual accounting), including the full accounting cycle and the preparation of work sheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals.
  • Uses information technology in accessing, collecting, analyzing, maintaining, and disseminating data and information.
  • Identifies and analyzes problems; weighs relevance and accuracy of information; generates and evaluates alternative solutions; makes recommendations.
  • Must submit to fingerprinting and background check screening.
  • Must provide proof of Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap), Mumps, Measles, Rubella (MMR), and Varicella Immunizations.
  • Must provide proof of Hepatitis B (immunity or declination statement).
  • Must provide annual Influenza vaccination or a signed declination statement.
  • Must provide proof of Tuberculosis screening within the past 12 months.
  • Must pass a comprehensive background investigation, which includes a state and FBI fingerprint-based background check.
  • Must fill in the Education section of the application to verify education is being used to meet the required minimum qualifications. If units completed, indicate the number of units.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of a formal vocational education program in accounting or bookkeeping will substitute for the required experience.
  • Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month).
