Accounting-Summer Intern-1
About The Position
As a key member of the Accounting department, the intern manages assigned projects and supports accounting team members with projects aligned with the finance team’s priorities. The position contributes by improving the quality and flow of information, building departmental culture, and promoting the adoption of new processes and tools. The internship will be tailored to the intern’s qualifications and interests, with placement on a team that best fits the intern and the department’s needs. Available teams include General Accounting, Derivatives, Cash Applications, Technical Accounting & Reporting, Fixed Assets, Retail Accounting, and Settlements Accounting. The internship offers hands-on experience in an accounting environment, shadowing and training with knowledgeable professionals, opportunities to attend meetings for insight into the energy business, and mentorship from Accounting leaders.
Requirements
- Major in Accounting, Finance, or another related field.
- Understanding of Accounting and its concentrations.
- Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office products.
- Experience working on a team.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to relate well to people at all levels.
- Appetite to learn new things.
- Time-management skills to balance an internship, school, and extracurricular activities.
- High level of integrity.
- Consultative problem-solving approach.
- Proven track record of success, collaborative and participative style, and ability to present to Accounting staff.
- Hands-on, enthusiastic, results-oriented approach, with the ability to add value to the existing team.
- Ability to adapt quickly to a rapidly changing environment, deal well with ambiguity, and take ownership of decision making.
Responsibilities
- Develop and present regular, timely reports and presentations, including illustrations and graphics of Accounting initiatives and related business outcomes.
- Gather data to support departmental and team reporting.
- Recommend and design solutions to meet needs.
- Manage assigned projects and support Accounting team members with projects aligned with finance team priorities.
- Help improve the quality and flow of information, build departmental culture, and promote adoption of new processes and tools.
