About The Position

This is a non-exempt position. Oversees and participates in processing complex accounting transactions, preparing adjustments to sub-ledgers and ledgers, and oversees and performs reconciliation, reporting, and auditing of general ledger financial information. Ensures compliance with established procedures, accurate and timely accounting and statistical reports, proper utilization analysis, and accounting for revenue and special funding by performing professional accounting work and coordinating and overseeing clerical accounting services.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, or the equivalent specialty.
  • Five (5) years of experience in accounting, two of which must involve leadership over processing of transactions and production of financial statements.
  • Specialized professional-level knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of accounting and financial record keeping.
  • In-depth knowledge of the generally accepted accounting practices and procedures for municipal entities.
  • Thorough knowledge of computer-aided relational database systems that apply to accounting applications.
  • Knowledge of audit procedures, development of accounting controls, and implementation of GASB releases.
  • Knowledge of modern practices and principles of leadership.
  • Well-developed human relations skills, sufficient to communicate technical concepts to others, to facilitate small group processes on technical matters, review employee performance, resolve conflict, and deal with organizations and individuals inside and outside of the Tribal government.
  • Skill in writing professional communications and reports.
  • Advanced math skills to perform financial and statistical computations and accounting tests.
  • Ability to carry out all aspects of the position.
  • Ability to prepare trial balance financial statements and summaries, account adjustments, financial estimates (variance analysis), audit reports, and custom reports using PC-based spreadsheets and relational databases.
  • Ability to prepare clear, complete, and concise financial records.
  • Ability to analyze accounting data and prepare financial statements.
  • Ability to conduct technical research and complete complex mathematical and statistical computations.
  • Ability to develop and implement accounting controls.
  • Ability to learn and apply the sections of tribal, corporate, and municipal codes that deal with accounting, reporting, and reimbursement for services.
  • Ability to use specialized computer-aided tools for data management and analysis.
  • Must be able to prepare professional written reports.
  • May require a valid driver’s license.
  • If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance.

Nice To Haves

  • A CPA, CMA, or CIA certificate is desirable and may substitute for some experience.
