About The Position

The Department of Housing Services is seeking an Accounting Operations Supervisor to lead and manage complex accounting operations for Washington County's Housing Department and the Housing Authority of Washington County. This role is crucial for ensuring the integrity of financial systems and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including HUD and other grantor requirements. The supervisor will oversee Accounts Receivable/Accounts Payable, support audit activities, and implement internal controls and procedures to strengthen and maintain effective financial operations.

Requirements

A Master's Degree in finance, accounting, economics, statistics, or a related field; AND two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience performing budgetary or financial analysis, or auditing, which includes at least one (1) year of supervisory or lead worker experience spanning responsibilities in the defined principle duties of this position classification; OR
A Bachelor's Degree in finance, accounting, economics, statistics, or a related field; AND four (4) years of progressively responsible professional experience performing budgetary or financial analysis, or auditing, which includes at least one (1) year of supervisory or lead worker experience spanning responsibilities in the defined principle duties of this position classification; OR
An Associate's Degree in finance, accounting, economics, statistics, or a related field; AND six (6) years of progressively responsible professional experience performing budgetary or financial analysis, or auditing, which includes at least one (1) year of supervisory or lead worker experience spanning responsibilities in the defined principle duties of this position classification; OR
Eight (8) years of progressively responsible professional experience performing budgetary or financial analysis, or auditing, of which at least four (4) years of this experience must be in the public sector and includes at least one (1) year of supervisory or lead worker experience spanning responsibilities in the defined principle duties of this position classification.
Must pass a background check post-offer.

Nice To Haves

Hands-on experience managing comprehensive accounting operations in a multi-funded public sector environment, particularly within Housing or HUD-funded programs.
Skilled at overseeing the full accounting cycle (GL, A/R, A/P, payroll, grants).
Experience working directly with external auditors.
Ensuring compliance with GAAP, GASB, HUD, and federal grant requirements.
Demonstrated leadership in supervising staff.
Experience refining accounting policies and procedures.
Strong analytical and communication ability to support program financial planning.
