About The Position

ArchWell Health is seeking an Accounting Manager, Medical Margin to manage the daily operations of the medical margin accounting function and drive continuous improvement in the close process. The role works collaboratively with departments across the company to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

The Accounting Manager oversees the medical margin close and reporting of revenue and medical expenses, manages accounting activities and team development, and evaluates and improves accounting processes. The role also partners with cross-functional teams on payor healthcare data, reconciliations, and settlements; supports accounting documentation, policies, procedures, and internal controls; contributes to financial reporting and audits; and provides data and reports to cross-functional leaders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
• At least 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including time in a leadership role.
• Healthcare experience.
• Deep understanding of technical accounting policies, regulations, financial statements, internal controls, and procedures.
• Experience building and developing processes and procedures with a focus on continuous improvement.
• Experience in financial and variance analysis, including interpreting and communicating findings and insights.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to work independently and cross-functionally to achieve objectives.
• Strong judgment, analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills, with attention to detail and the ability to navigate complex issues and communicate solutions.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
• Strong multitasking and organizational skills.
• Effective communication skills and ability to present information clearly to internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Manage the medical margin financial close and drive timely, accurate reporting of revenue and medical expenses.
• Manage day-to-day medical margin accounting activities, including reviewing journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Manage and develop a team of accounting professionals by providing guidance, support, and coaching.
• Foster a culture of collaboration and high performance.
• Evaluate current accounting processes and develop and implement improvements to the efficiency and effectiveness of the medical margin accounting function.
• Collaborate with Actuary, IT, Med Econ, Finance, and other departments to analyze payor healthcare data and perform end-to-end payor reconciliations to improve data accuracy.
• Act as the Accounting department's point of contact for payor data and reconciliations.
• Assist with settlements between ArchWell Health and payors, as necessary.
• Reconcile the general ledger to underlying sources and develop methods and tools to provide analytical insight.
• Manage and support the development of medical margin process documentation.
• Assist with building and maintaining medical margin accounting memos, policies, and procedures in accordance with GAAP.
• Support development and maintenance of internal controls.
• Contribute to financial reporting and coordinate with Finance leaders to produce high-quality reporting and analysis.
• Support interim and annual audits.
• Serve as a resource and partner to cross-functional leaders, providing requested data and reports.
• Support ad-hoc projects and initiatives.
