About The Position

Ivy Tech is Indiana’s community college and workforce engine, dedicated to providing high-quality learning experiences, driving economic return, and empowering learners for lifelong success. The Accounting & Business Faculty role involves delivering engaging instruction in Accounting and Business Administration programs across various formats. Responsibilities include providing timely feedback, supporting students outside of class, contributing to institutional goals, and participating in student retention and completion initiatives. The faculty member will also support the College's mission and strategic plan, adhering to campus expectations for performance and engagement.

Requirements

  • Strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to Accounting instruction, including Learning Management Systems, Microsoft Office applications, accounting software, and instructional technology.
  • Meet faculty credential requirements as outlined in the Academic Support and Operations Manual (ASOM 07.01.00) for Accounting faculty.

  • A qualified faculty member in Accounting meets the program standard through one of the following routes: 1. Possesses an earned master's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in Accounting; OR 2. Possesses an earned related or out-of-field master's degree from a regionally accredited institution with documented 18 graduate semester credit hours in Accounting beyond the introductory principles level; OR 3. Possesses an earned related or out-of-field master's degree from a regionally accredited institution with documentation in two or more of the following: In-field professional certification (national, regional, or state), such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), or other recognized accounting credential. Three years of in-field professional employment in Accounting or a closely related profession. Documented evidence of teaching excellence. Documentation of research and publication in the Accounting field. Documented relevant additional coursework beyond the bachelor's degree equivalent to 18 semester hours or equivalent subject matter coursework, continuing education units (CEUs), vendor training, or military training. OR 4. Possesses an earned bachelor's degree in Accounting from a regionally accredited institution with documentation in two or more of the following: In-field professional certification (CPA, CMA, CIA, CFE, or equivalent). Two years of professional Accounting experience. Documented evidence of teaching excellence. Documentation of research and publication in the Accounting field. Documented relevant additional coursework beyond the bachelor's degree equivalent to 18 semester hours or equivalent subject matter coursework, CEUs, vendor training, or military training. OR 5. Possesses an earned bachelor's degree in a related business field from a regionally accredited institution with an active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential.
  • A qualified faculty member in Business Administration meets the program standard through one of four routes: 1. Possesses an earned master’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in business administration, business education, public administration, management, marketing, or a business-administration-related field as appropriate to the program); OR 2. Possesses an earned related or out-of-field master’s degree, from a regionally accredited institution, with documented 18 post-secondary semester /27 quarter credit hours or equivalent of courses beyond the introductory principle(s) level in business administration, public administration, management, marketing, or a business-administration-related field as appropriate to the program; OR 3. Possesses an earned related or out-of-field master's degree, from a regionally accredited institution, with documentation in two or more of the following: or In-field national, regional, or state professional certification (does not include teaching license or certificate) or Three years of in-field professional employment in the industry (teaching in the area is not considered in-field professional employment). or Documentation of research and publication in the field or Documented relevant additional coursework beyond the bachelor's degree, equivalent to 15 semester/22 quarter credit hours 0 equivalent subject matter coursework, CEU's, vendor, or military training. OR 4. Possesses an earned bachelor’s degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in business administration, public administration, management, marketing, or a business-administration-related field as appropriate to the program, with documentation in two or more of the following:

Responsibilities

  • Deliver assigned Accounting courses using appropriate pedagogy and technology, adhering to College policies and program learning outcomes.
  • Develop, revise, and maintain curriculum and course materials aligned with course objectives and program learning outcomes.
  • Teach a variety of Accounting courses, including Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Payroll Accounting, Taxation, Cost Accounting, Auditing, Accounting Information Systems, Governmental and Nonprofit Accounting, and Intermediate Accounting.
  • Utilize current accounting software, educational technology, and instructional resources to enhance student learning.
  • Maintain accurate student records, attendance, grades, and required documentation.
  • Manage a classroom environment conducive to learning, adhering to safety standards.
  • Facilitate student achievement of course and program learning outcomes.
  • Use the College's Learning Management System (Canvas) for teaching, learning, assessment, communication, and student engagement.
  • Incorporate current accounting standards, regulations, professional ethics, and industry best practices into instruction.
  • Provide academic coaching and monitoring to assigned student advisees in partnership with professional academic advising staff.
  • Monitor and document student performance, using advising alerts and early intervention technology.
  • Provide interventions, including communication with students and referrals to support services.
  • Maintain posted office hours and student engagement hours as per College expectations and faculty loading policy.
  • Promote student recruitment, retention, persistence, graduation, and successful completion of Accounting programs.
  • Support students in exploring transfer opportunities, CPA pathways, industry certifications, and accounting career opportunities.
  • Participate in professional development activities, including training, industry engagement, conferences, workshops, certifications, and self-study.
  • Maintain current knowledge of accounting principles, GAAP, taxation, auditing, accounting technologies, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Participate in scholarly activities related to Accounting for annual performance plans and professional credential requirements.
  • Stay current in contemporary instructional practices, digital technologies, and emerging accounting software.
  • Participate in community service activities to strengthen College-community relationships.
  • Develop partnerships with businesses, accounting firms, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations for internships, experiential learning, advisory committees, and workforce development.
  • Collaborate with community partners to promote Accounting education and career pathways.
  • Provide institutional support through participation on committees, task forces, accreditation activities, assessment initiatives, and grant-funded projects.
  • Support Corporate College and Ivy Tech Foundation initiatives.
  • Attend commencement ceremonies and participate as assigned by regional administration.
  • Participate in College-wide, campus, departmental, divisional, and faculty meetings.
  • Participate in career services, alumni engagement, recruitment activities, and community outreach events.
  • Assist the Department Chair with program planning, curriculum review, scheduling, assessment, advisory committees, and other program management activities.
  • Adhere to College policies, regional academic procedures, accreditation requirements, and faculty expectations.
