About The Position

The Audit and Accounting Associate I assists with performing various functions of the engagement process for Gross Mendelsohn clients including nonprofits, manufacturers, long-term care providers, construction contractors, government contractors and professional service firms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Zero - three years’ experience.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Ability to analyze and organize client data into basic accounting format.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel) and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, or similar).
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact with clients and team members.
  • Effectively manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
  • Flexibility to work evenings/weekends, particularly during tax season.
  • Ability to travel, primarily in the DMV, including some overnight stays.

Nice To Haves

  • Interest in pursuing CPA license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Possess and apply basic knowledge of accounting principles and tax laws to complete assignments timely with consistent supervision.
  • Become familiar with audit, review and compilation techniques and analytical procedures.
  • Perform as part of the team handling engagements from inception to completion adhering to audit and accounting standards and regulations.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of basic and routine accounting and auditing concepts and apply them to various client situations.
  • Work effectively within given budgetary parameters.
  • Communicate matters and problems to Seniors, Supervisors, Managers and Partners.
  • Assist in the preparation of workpapers and financial statements, including basic footnote disclosures.
  • Assist with tax preparation and compliance activities, including gathering supporting documents and preparing basic corporate, partnership and individual tax returns.
  • Effectively utilize in house accounting software, programs and forms (i.e., Excel, Word, CCH ProSystems Engagement, FAS asset accounting, Axcess.
  • Collaborate with team members and clients to address accounting inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
  • Stay current with accounting principles, regulations, and industry trends to ensure compliance and best practices.
