As an Accounting & Finance Project Specialist, you’ll play an important role in keeping our financial operations accurate, compliant, and forward‑looking. You’ll work closely with the Accounting and Finance team and serve as a trusted contributor across core financial functions—from reconciliations and reporting to capital asset management and compliance support. In this role, you’ll support both day‑to‑day accounting operations and longer‑term projects. Your work will directly support financial transparency, regulatory compliance, and sound decision‑making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or a related field
  • 1–3 years of experience in areas such as general ledger accounting, reconciliations, capital assets, audits, or payroll review and analysis

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with prevailing wage compliance
  • Grant writing or grant reporting experience
  • EPA or regulatory financial reporting experience

Responsibilities

  • Prepare journal entries and support general ledger review
  • Perform monthly bank and investment reconciliations
  • Assist with month‑end close and account reconciliations
  • Serve as backup support for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
  • Manage capital assets, including depreciation, additions, disposals, reconciliations, physical verification, and reporting
  • Support prevailing wage compliance by working with contractors, reviewing certified payrolls, submitting required documentation to the State of Ohio, and maintaining current wage rates
  • Help prepare monthly financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, projections, and other required reports
  • Support EPA Quarterly Financial Reports (QFRs) and Solid Waste Management Plan reporting
  • Track and report on capital assets, including retainage payments
  • Prepare financial materials and presentations for the Board of Trustees and Accounting & Finance Committee meetings
  • Complete periodic grant reporting in accordance with grant requirements
  • Contribute to grant writing opportunities
  • Prepare State of Ohio fuel refund filings
  • Document, review, and improve financial processes
  • Participate in system reviews and enhancements
  • Review payroll runs, quarterly and annual reconciliations (W‑2s, 941s, etc.)
  • Serve on internal committees and assist with special projects as needed
