About The Position

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire an Accountant for the Office of Mines and Minerals. This position will work directly with Comptroller staff to resolve financial obligation and payment problems; plan the use of the Accounting Information System (AIS) for the Office of Mines and Minerals; prepare and update monthly expenditure analysis reports for the Office and supervisory staff; monitor and reconcile Office attendance and timekeeping records to PAS records. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, with courses in business administration and accounting or four years of technical accounting experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Elementary knowledge of office methods, procedures, standard office accounting machines and equipment.
  • Two (2) years of experience performing detailed work involving written or numerical data and to make arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately, either manually or by machine.
  • Elementary knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations relating to State or non-state accounting or auditing procedures.
  • Two (2) years of experience creating & maintaining Excel spreadsheets & workbooks.
  • Two (2) years of experience using Microsoft Office tools, (ie, Word Excel, Power Point & Outlook).
  • Two (2) years of work experience working with Accounting Software.

Responsibilities

  • Under general direction, reviews financial accounting records for the Office of Mines and Minerals
  • Independently prepares, examines, and analyzes complex statements and reports for the Programmatic Time Report for the Office of Mines and Minerals
  • Analyzes budget needs and writes Federal grant applications for the simplified grant which consists of administrative emergency administrative and emergency construction costs for a period of one year and construction costs for a period of three years
  • Advises staff of proper procedures and rules of the State Statutes Comptroller's Office and CMS prepares or audits contracts
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
