About The Position

This is a fully remote consulting opportunity for experienced U.S. tax professionals contributing to an AI training and tax-reasoning project. The work centers on interpreting U.S. sales and use tax statutes, regulations, and selected federal tax provisions, then translating legal requirements into precise evaluation criteria. Professionals will assess whether AI-generated formal interpretations accurately reflect statutory conditions, thresholds, exceptions, definitions, and logical relationships. No prior AI experience is required. The engagement is as an independent contractor and pays $65–$70 per hour. Assignments include statutory interpretation, rubric development, structured AI evaluation, and test-scenario creation. Work may span multiple U.S. jurisdictions, and project scope, jurisdiction coverage, workload, and evaluation standards may evolve. Work must not use confidential or proprietary information belonging to an employer, client, institution, or other third party. The opportunity is offered through 24-MAG LLC.

Requirements

  • Active CPA licence, Chartered Accountant designation, or experience as a U.S. tax attorney.
  • Strong experience interpreting U.S. tax statutes and regulations.
  • Ability to analyse statutory language rather than solely prepare tax returns.
  • Strong understanding of legal logic, including conditions, thresholds, AND/OR structures, exceptions, and defined terms.
  • Excellent structured written communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, particularly regarding exclusions, exceptions, and edge cases.
  • Strong analytical reasoning and ability to clearly defend evaluation conclusions.
  • Comfort working within digital review and quality-assurance platforms.
  • Must complete work without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to an employer, client, institution, or other third party.

Nice To Haves

  • Sales and use tax or broader state and local tax experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience across multiple U.S. state tax jurisdictions is highly valuable.
  • Enrolled Agent designation or relevant federal tax experience is advantageous.
  • Experience reviewing AI-generated or technology-driven tax content is beneficial.
  • Background in training teams or providing written feedback on legal or tax language is a plus.
  • Interest in the intersection of tax compliance and technology is highly relevant.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret sales and use tax statutes across U.S. state jurisdictions and review relevant regulations and selected federal tax provisions.
  • Analyse statutory language at the subsection level, identifying conditions, thresholds, exceptions, definitions, dependencies, exclusions, and cross-references.
  • Distinguish genuine legal requirements from assumptions or unsupported interpretations, and identify genuine statutory ambiguity.
  • Convert statutory provisions into discrete, testable evaluation criteria and develop rubrics independently from AI-generated outputs.
  • Review AI-generated translations of tax statutes and score them against rubrics using structured pass/fail criteria.
  • Verify the accurate treatment of conditions, thresholds, AND/OR logic, and statutory exceptions; identify omitted, distorted, or misrepresented requirements.
  • Provide precise explanations supporting evaluation decisions and document discrepancies and reasoning clearly.
  • Develop self-contained tax test scenarios, including explicit facts, dates, monetary amounts, expected outcomes, and edge cases.
  • Submit evaluations through a digital review platform and maintain consistency across repeated statutory-review assignments.
  • Contribute actionable feedback to support improvements in AI-powered tax systems.
