About The Position

WestJet is seeking an Accountant, Vacations to support the Sunwing Vacations business and broader Commercial Accounting activities. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Sunwing Accounting, this role is responsible for financial reporting, accounting operations, systems support, analysis, and process improvement initiatives that ensure accurate financial results and support business decision-making. The successful candidate will play a key role in period-end close activities, financial reporting, system integrations, internal controls, and cross-functional projects. This role requires strong technical accounting expertise, analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to partner effectively with stakeholders across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
  • CPA designation required.
  • 3-5 years of progressive accounting, financial analysis, or corporate finance experience.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, month-end close, account reconciliations, internal controls, and IFRS.
  • Experience supporting finance systems, process improvements, testing, and implementations.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with both financial and non-financial stakeholders and translate complex accounting concepts into actionable insights.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with JD Edwards, Hyperion, OneStream, or similar ERP/reporting systems is considered an asset.
  • Experience within the travel, tourism, airline, or vacation industry is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the Finance subject matter expert for Sunwing Vacations' reservation system (TTS), supporting system enhancements, testing, integrations, account mappings, and finance-related processes.
  • Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end accounting activities, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, intercompany transactions, variance analysis, and financial reporting.
  • Manage financial interfaces between TTS and JD Edwards (JDE), ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting policies and IFRS requirements.
  • Prepare financial statements, working papers, account reconciliations, and regulatory reporting while supporting internal and external audit requirements.
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls, CSOx documentation, and compliance with accounting standards and corporate policies.
  • Partner with Commercial, Operations, Sales, and other business teams to provide financial insights, analysis, reporting, and decision support.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, automate workflows, and support system implementations, business initiatives, and operational changes.
