About The Position

The role of Accountant is a full-time position in the company and will involve collaborating with the Principals and Director of Operations to process transactions, manage financial records, and provide support regarding key financial decisions. As a full-service architecture, interior design, and construction studio, we are looking to bring on a professional who is a self-starter and able to carry out the duties below. This position will offer the opportunity to collaborate with our internal design team and to work with some of the most successful and affluent homeowners and businesspeople across Canada.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Accounting
  • 5-10 years of relevant post-graduate experience in accounting / bookkeeping
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  • High-level skill with accounting software and Microsoft Office applications (specifically Microsoft Excel); experience in Deltek Ajera an asset
  • Experience in generating invoices, coordinating insurance, managing budgets, preparing client contracts, and creating estimates and purchase orders
  • Fluent understanding of accounts payables and receivables, corporate tax and HST installments, journal entries, payroll and source deductions, and reconciliation procedures
  • Proven ability to offer strategies and solutions to help better analyze staff and company performance and to help grow the business
  • Proficient in utilizing KPIs to assess company performance and effectively communicate findings to management
  • Strong understanding of business operations and the ability to make informed decisions to support organizational objectives
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and well-organized problem solver
  • Trustworthy and well-understood in matters requiring confidentiality

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Principal and Directors to develop and monitor KPIs, track progress against targets, and recommend corrective actions as needed
  • Serve as advisor to the Principal and Directors, offering strategic initiatives to optimize resource utilization and overall cost reduction / increased profitability
  • Provide advice on financing and investment decisions, and advise on long-term business planning to achieve sustainable growth and success
  • Provide and implement solutions regarding how to better analyze staff and company performance and to help grow the business
  • Create systems for evaluating financial performance for each member of staff to be used when evaluating overall performance
  • Assist in the creation of systems to streamline the efficiency of all accounting activities
  • Manage construction budgets, ensuring all figures are up-to-date throughout the project lifecycle
  • Prepare and review company budgets and financial statements
  • Assist in coordinating fee proposals based on historical data
  • Administer payroll and source deductions, including remittance of T4s
  • Manage corporate tax, HST installments, and HST filing
  • Coordinate corporate and personal income taxes
  • Coordinate with the company accountant to review company financial statements and prepare the company file for the fiscal year-end
  • Input all accounting transactions into the accounting system
  • Oversee and execute all project accounting activities, including the preparation and management of client invoices
  • Manage all accounts payables and receivables, including making collection calls
  • Process vendor payments, including assisting with the approval process, writing cheques, processing credit card payments, and maintaining a log of all payments sent
  • Prepare deposits
  • Perform chequing, VISA, and other reconciliations
  • Provide recommendations regarding software and any other tools to help benefit accounting operations
  • Prepare of client procurement estimates, purchase orders, and invoices
  • Ensure the highest level of accuracy and precision in all areas of work
  • Any other activities as required for the success of the business
