Make an impact as an Accountant. Join Nationwide’s NF Treasury Services Disbursements team as an Accountant in Columbus, Ohio. In this full-time role, you’ll support accounting operations and high-volume payment processing in a technology-enabled environment. As an Accountant, you'll perform varied accounting functions in the day-to-day maintenance of a general ledger and in the preparation of basic financial reports and statements. You'll use generally accepted accounting principles and practices in acquiring, assembling, evaluating and interpreting records and financial data of various types and sources. We’ll count on you to demonstrate integrity and solid financial acuity with our customers, business partners and regulators.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate coursework or a degree in accounting or finance; an accounting major and degree are preferred.
  • Up to two years of related accounting experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, analytical ability, and basic mathematical skills.
  • Excellent organization and the ability to multitask, switch priorities, and meet same-day deadlines.
  • A collaborative, team-first approach and willingness to support coworkers during absences or high-volume periods.
  • Undergraduate studies in accounting or finance; accounting major and degree preferred.
  • Up to two years of related accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of industry practices and procedures, GAAP and/or STAT, as well as financial statement preparation.
  • Command of all skills necessary for verbal and written communications.
  • Ability to analyze reporting and financial data to determine compliance to established standards.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to efficiently operate a personal computer and related accounting and business software.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with PMTS/payment systems or an imaging system is preferred.
  • Banking-access experience is helpful but can be learned.
  • Progress towards CPA preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support Nationwide Financial payment processing and payment approvals using PMTS, the team’s payment system, along with imaging tools.
  • Maintain accounting records.
  • Assist with accounting transactions, financial reports, and financial statements.
  • Prepare and verify reports for management, regulators, auditors, insurance bureaus, statistical agencies, and other external partners.
  • Communicate with internal and external business partners to research discrepancies and resolve reporting questions.
  • Maintain current knowledge of accounting and reporting requirements that affect financial submissions.
  • Recommend workflow, process, and technology improvements and assist with new accounting or financial processes.
  • Assists, under minimal direct supervision, with the coordination, preparation and analysis of financial reports and statements as assigned.
  • Assists with development and submission of accounting and financial transactions required to provide proper reporting.
  • Maintains necessary accounting records and files as required. Performs maintenance of general ledger.
  • Prepares and verifies financial reports required by various insurance bureaus, publishing houses, statistical agencies, regulatory authorities, internal and external auditors/examiners and management.
  • Corresponds with various field staff or outside sources concerning difficulties, discrepancies or other matters as needed.
  • Maintains current knowledge of changes to GAAP and/or statutory accounting and reporting requirements, which will affect the submission of required reports and financial documents.
  • Recommends changes that would enhance, improve or facilitate job performance, processing or workflow. Recommends changes and improvements to related technology.
  • Assists, as requested, in the development and design of new accounting/financial processes.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
