About The Position

CountryPlace Mortgage, a leading nationwide personal property, mortgage and commercial lender headquartered in Plano, TX, is seeking a Staff Accountant II to join our accounting team. This in-person role, based in our Plano, TX office, offers an exciting opportunity for an individual to develop analytical skills in a high-impact environment. The Staff Accountant is a key component of CountryPlace’s accounting team, who together ensure that the accounting books and records are appropriately maintained in addition to supporting the company’s loan origination and servicing operations. The accounting team works directly with the external auditors and financial reporting to ensure GAAP and SEC compliance. This position reports directly to the Accounting Manager.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Minimum two years of accounting experience or has passed all four parts of the uniform CPA exam

Responsibilities

  • Processes chattel loan fundings with timeliness, accuracy, and an excellent level of service to our originations team including: detailed review of draw sheets, setup of wire transfers, reviewing and activating loans in the servicing system, and entry of cash disbursement journal entries in the general ledger.
  • Processes mortgage loan closings with timeliness and accuracy, including: detailed review and balancing of draw sheets to mortgage closing disclosure documentation, setup of wire transfers, reviewing and activating loans in the servicing system, and entry of cash disbursement journal entries in the general ledger
  • Processes mortgage construction loan draws with timeliness and accuracy, including detailed review of draw package for compliance with company policy, setup of wire transfers, calculation and settlement of dealer interest reserve balance, and entry of cash disbursement journal entries in the general ledger.
  • Prepares monthly accounting journal entries within established timelines and with minimal rejections in the following areas: chattel loan sales, chattel funding disbursements, mortgage funding disbursements, ACH refunds, servicer remittances, appraisal deposits, commercial servicing fees, chattel servicing fee accruals, internal cost of funds, interest earnings on cash, and others as assigned
  • Manages ERP vendor setup for all of CountryPlace Mortgage, ensuring compliance with policies pertaining to annual form 1099 distribution
  • Reconciles non-complex balance sheet accounts within established timeframes, including: accounts payable, construction draws receivable, insurance claims payable, servicer receivables, and others as assigned
  • Reconciles servicer payable accounts with each chattel investor within established timeframes and takes corrective actions to resolve discrepancies before quarter-end
  • Reviews monthly bank detail to ensure all cash disbursements have been recorded in the general ledger
  • Provides detailed analyses and explanations of transactions as assigned
  • Prepares documentation for and interact with internal and external auditors
  • Demonstrates intermediate proficiency in excel (can use pivot tables, vlookup, sumif in actual real-world analysis)
  • Demonstrates intermediate proficiency in loan servicing and is able to interpret servicing system data to understand all characteristics of a particular loan that are pertinent to accounting
  • Consistently meets and exceeds individual, team and department objectives
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
