About The Position

National Interstate is a member of Great American Insurance Group and is a leading commercial transportation insurer. They offer risk financing solutions nationwide, including traditional insurance and alternative risk transfer programs. They are seeking an Accountant to join their team, working a hybrid schedule out of the Richfield office. The company culture emphasizes connection, shared learning, and strong relationships, with employees expected to be on-site four days a week (Tuesday-Thursday core days) and one day remotely, determined by business needs. This position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship, and applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without future sponsorship. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Risk Management and Insurance, Safety Engineering, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Generally, a minimum of 3 years of experience in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Demonstrates technical knowledge across various accounting principles and practices.
  • Works on assignments of moderate technical and logistical complexity.
  • Maintains knowledge of company policies, GAAP, and financial reporting standards.
  • Demonstrates foundational analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of company policies and industry laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and across departments.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Insurance accounting experience preferred.
  • Completion of or continuing progress toward a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and reviews monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and other relevant regulations.
  • Maintains and reconciles general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records.
  • Prepares journal entries and perform month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Coordinates moderately complex accounting matters and reporting with other departments, locations, divisions, and external customers.
  • Supports internal and external audits, ensuring the availability of necessary documentation.
  • Performs financial analysis to support management decision-making and identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
  • Prepares ad-hoc financial reports and analyses as required.
  • Supports internal control improvements and ensures adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Assists in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Monitors changes in accounting standards and regulations and assists in implementing necessary updates to policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
