About The Position

Our team at the Eastern Nebraska Veterans’ Home is currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented person to fulfill our Accountant I position. Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. Wage: $20.956 ($17.956/hr base rate plus $3 differential for every hour worked). You will play a pivotal role in determining member’s eligibility for benefits and initiate claims to the appropriate agencies to acquire these benefits. This role involves researching records and interviewing members and their families while ensuring the timely gathering of financial information and filing of forms. You will also research and collect financial data from members and their families to calculate admission and annual member contribution. Assisting members, families, or financial representatives in filing the annual financial reports and documents with the courts, the Nebraska Veterans Home, and State and Federal Agencies. Answering inquiries and providing professional guidance in the resolution of accounting problems and/or member trust/member contribution problems. Will oversee all designated departments in the Business Manager’s absence. Positing data to and/or reconciling ledgers, journals, worksheets, and accounts to ensure/verify that all information is complete and accurate. Writing and disseminating instructions, manuals, and procedures relating to accounting and financial reporting to facilitate employee production. Working in conjunction with the Business Manager to provide account analysis and reports for use in the preparation of the organizational budget. Assisting in the collection of member contribution. Working with member past due accounts to ensure maximum collections and submit write-off information for bad debts. Work with Veterans Service Officers in coordinating Veteran benefits. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Post high school coursework or vocational education in accounting, finance, business administration or related field, OR experience performing accounting functions including interpreting and analyzing financial data.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, equipment & computer systems and management.
  • Ability to learn and apply principles, concepts, regulations and procedures of accounting systems.
  • Skill in working collaboratively with a variety of people.
  • Proficient with good oral and written communications.
  • Ability to maintain records accurately and prepare accurate reports.
