About The Position

The purpose of this job within the organization is to maintain and prepare complex financial records. This job reports to the Finance Manager, works independently and under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance or a related field or a high school diploma or equivalent and combination of education and experience in accounting or finance equivalent to four (4) years of related work experience, preferably in a government accounting setting.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Bright Municipal Accounting Software or financial database software.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing, auditing and approving all vendor invoices against backup documents for accuracy before issuing payment; includes correcting general ledger coding and verifying purchase orders.
  • Processing vendor payments and the City’s check runs using the City’s financial system.
  • Reviewing and processing W-9 and 1099’s for all vendors and maintaining related documents.
  • Auditing employee reimbursements to adhere to City, State, Federal and grant guidelines.
  • Managing the City’s vendor accounts by analyzing invoices and resolving accounting discrepancies to ensure that all City accounts are in good standing.
  • Communicating with vendors and other departments to resolve payment issues and inquiries.
  • Researching and analyzing accounts payable entries and reports and correcting errors with journal entries.
  • Assisting with the preparation of the City’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
  • Providing customer service and technical assistance.
  • Participates in monitoring and evaluating the adequacy of internal accounting controls, records, and procedures.
  • Applies federal, state, and local laws and regulations and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
