About The Position

Be part of an accounting and consulting team that provides mission critical support for a large Federal government client. CGI Federal is looking to add to a very diverse team of ERP system analysts, reports analysts, and accountants that work in a positive working environment to meet our client's accounting and reconciliation needs. The ideal candidate for this position is an accounting/financial analyst who is familiar with U.S. Standard General Leger, Government Accounting Standards and Practices, Generally Acceptable Accounting Principles (GAAP), as well as other Office of Management and Budget (OMB) guidelines and requirements. As an ERP Accountant, you will use your knowledge, skills, and abilities to review various financial data (e.g., obligations, payments, salaries, and taxes) and perform reconciliations across various ERP and reporting systems on a monthly and quarterly basis. The accountant will work with a reports analyst to identify data discrepancies and translate those into accounting entries necessary to resolve discrepancies between multiple ERP systems. The ideal candidate also has ERP system knowledge (e.g., Momentum and Oracle) and understands how federal financial data is processed and captured in the system to satisfy federal financial management and reporting requirements. The candidate also has strong writing and communication skills and is able to build relationships with both their team members and clients for successful collaboration and coordination. This position is located in our Fairfax, VA office with work performed at client site in Washington, DC; however, a hybrid working model is acceptable.

Requirements

  • It is desired that the candidate is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM); however, exceptions can be made based on his/her past experience.
  • The candidate will be responsible for performing accounting data reconciliations mainly working with MS Excel and Power BI and presenting those results to the client while making complex ideas understandable to the client.
  • The candidate should expect to lead or participate in 2-3 hour working sessions several times a week with the client and/or the team where s/he collaborates in real time working sessions to analyze financial and grant related data in Excel and/or Power BI.
  • For example, during each month end, the candidate will be asked to present his/her reconciliation results to the client and auditors through MS Teams or in person and clearly communicate reconciliation results and issues.
  • Further, the candidate will be proposing different ways for the client to resolve these issues.
  • The candidate should expect to spend a majority of his/her time analyzing, summarizing, regrouping, reconciling, and comparing financial data using tools such as MS Excel and/or Power BI.
  • The candidate should be proficient in analyzing and reconciling financial data using database tables, MS Excel spreadsheets (e.g., pivot tables, vlookup, etc.), and/or other comparable tools.
  • Must be proficient in MS Excel and know advanced Excel functions and formulas (e.g., vlookup, pivot, if and then, match, and other formulas using data that span multiple data files and spreadsheets).
  • Ability to analyze metrics and reports using reporting tools (e.g., Business Objects, Crystal Reports, MS Access, SQL, or Pentaho).
  • The candidate must have prior ERP system (e.g., Momentum and Oracle) knowledge.
  • The candidate should be able to objectively define, track, and complete accounting and reconciliation tasks while working with a demanding client and assist the agency in resolving GL account imbalances.

Responsibilities

  • Performing reviews and reconciliations of federal financial data using various reporting tools such as Crystal Reports, MS Access, MS Excel, etc. as well as analyzing complex financial records and reports.
  • Reviewing the financial data originating from various applications and integrations/interfaces and validate that the accounting information is valid and proper.
  • Reviewing GL postings and amounts to ensure they accurately reflect actual transactions.
  • Ensuring transactions are sufficiently supported to ensure proper accounting.
  • Reconciling GL summary or detailed entries against source documents.
  • Performing complete reconciliation of all outstanding transactions, and any discrepancies identified are promptly researched and resolutions are proposed.
  • Developing documentation and presentation slides to describe and explain the causes of any accounting issues or data discrepancies identified during the reconciliations.
  • Identifying erroneous GL entries within financial data and elaborating on accounting entries necessary to resolve data or accounting discrepancies.
