About The Position

The City of Springfield is seeking applicants for an Account Executive position within the Office of Public Works, specifically for the Oak Ridge Cemetery division. This role involves assisting families with property and merchandise purchases, designing and selling memorials, and explaining interment and genealogy information. The Account Executive will also be responsible for developing sales goals, managing the sales pipeline, and maintaining accurate sales records and reports. Additionally, the position requires identifying prospects, conducting sales presentations, educating the community on advance arrangements, and managing various cemetery-related orders and records. The role also includes explaining cemetery rules and regulations and ensuring proper use of interment rights.

Requirements

  • Knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of a Bachelor’s degree.
  • A valid Class D driver’s license is required.
  • Ability to work Saturdays and overtime when needed.
  • Comfortable working with emotional and grieving individuals.
  • Current City employees must have completed their probationary period and attained certified status in their current position.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years of sales experience in the deathcare industry is preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Preference for employment in all positions with the city shall be given to applicants who are full-time city residents.

Responsibilities

  • Assist families with purchase of property and merchandise, design and sell markers and memorials, explain interment information, and genealogy information.
  • Develop and implement short and long-term sales goals, objectives and strategies.
  • Execute and manage the sales pipeline process and system.
  • Continuously evaluate the sales process and recommend changes as necessary.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate sales information and activity reports.
  • Monitor and report sales analytics and KPI's and adopt and enforces sales tools and best practices.
  • Identify potential prospects using initiative and creativity to generate outbound lead opportunities.
  • Conduct effective and productive individual and group sales presentations, and educate the community on the benefits of making arrangements in advance.
  • Complete and categorize files, and maintain orders for memorials, foundations, flower placements, government markers, and work orders.
  • Record burial information for each service as obtained from funeral homes and families.
  • Document accurate property inventory on both manual and computerized system.
  • Update and verify the accuracy of computerized records, including computerized cemetery mapping and all accounts receivable.
  • Complete and maintain all permanent records including service records, interment cards, lot cards, alpha listings, lot owner cards, deeds, and transfers.
  • Explain the rules and regulations of the cemetery.
  • Determine appropriate use of interment rights and obtains needed authorizations.
