About The Position

The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) is seeking candidates for a paid, full-time, 6-month internship. The Accessibility Intern will support MSDE's Information Technology Branch - Accessibility Section. This role involves assisting with document remediation, accessibility testing of online courses, supporting equivalent access requirements for students with disabilities, reviewing procurements for accessibility language, tracking digital accessibility tickets, researching new legislation and policies, working on specialized accessibility initiatives, conducting independent research, and providing general administrative support to the IT department.

Requirements

60 credit hours in Education, Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Information Technology, or related field.
Must consent to State and FBI (CJIS) background check.
Proof of eligibility to work is required in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act.

Responsibilities

Perform accessibility remediation on MSDE documents including Word, PowerPoints and PDFs.
Perform accessibility testing of online courses, track the status and ensure accurate records.
Create agendas, schedule meetings, and take meeting minutes for equivalent access requirements for students with disabilities.
Review procurements to ensure approved accessibility language is incorporated.
Enter accessibility tickets for digital tools and requested remediation.
Review new legislation and policies and completion of review in comparison with current standards and requirements, identifying new or expanded requirements with potential impacts to MSDE.
Work on specialized accessibility initiatives and projects, as assigned, under the direction of the Web and Content Accessibility Manager.
Independently research solutions to technical problems and learn new skills through job shadowing and self-study.
Provide general admin support to the IT department as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
