About The Position

Waymo is seeking an Access Operations Technical Specialist to own and optimize end-to-end processes and workflows for tooling and access management across the Global Extended Workforce. This role involves writing code to develop applications, scripts, and custom tooling that simplify access paths and drive operational efficiencies. You will also lead proactive risk-reduction initiatives, enforce strict "least privilege" models, and manage the lifecycle of access management programs for the extended workforce. This hybrid role requires close collaboration with Engineering, Tool Owners, Cybersecurity, and Business Leadership to translate security standards into technical workflows, develop policies, and educate on best practices. A key aspect of this role is leveraging an AI-first approach to replace manual bottlenecks with scalable, automated engineering solutions.

Requirements

  • Possess the technical depth to audit code-managed configurations, and comfort to make updates to reflect required access updates and policy tweaks to provide access paths in today’s environment.
  • Focus on future state simplification by building requirements for internal access tools, processes and automation of workflows.
  • Deep technical understanding of enterprise Identity Access Management frameworks (e.g., Okta, SailPoint, Google Cloud IAM, or custom frameworks).
  • Proven ability to proactively identify access security risks, build mitigation and contingency plans, and track risk-reduction metrics (e.g., access latency, over-provisioning remediation).
  • Strong capability to manage project timelines, navigate ambiguity, align conflicting priorities, and communicate complex architectures to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in writing production-grade code (e.g., Python, Go, Java, or JavaScript) to build internal tools, automate workflows, and interface with REST/gRPC APIs.
  • Experience designing and developing lightweight applications or automation layers that sit on top of legacy vendor systems to optimize user experiences.
  • Direct experience building automated compliance or automated review workflows that detect, flag, and de-provision orphaned or unnecessary access rights.
  • Familiarity with managing the unique security and lifecycle requirements associated with vendor, contractor, or temporary external workforces.

Responsibilities

  • Own current end-to-end processes and workflows for tooling & access management across Global Extended Workforce.
  • Actively partner with Engineering to develop applications, scripts, and custom tooling that sit on top of current access systems to simplify access paths and drive operational efficiencies.
  • Lead proactive risk-reduction initiatives.
  • Audit, design, and enforce strict "least privilege" models to ensure users are never over-provisioned with unnecessary tools or access.
  • Deliver simplified future state access management programs for the Global Extended Workforce, defining clear milestones, ownership, and technical dependencies.
  • Partner directly with Engineers, Tool Owners, Cybersecurity, and Business Leadership to translate complex security standards into frictionless technical workflows, develop tooling and access policies, and educate on best practices.
  • Exercise strong technical judgment to replace manual access-management bottlenecks with scalable, automated engineering solutions, leveraging an AI-first approach.

Benefits

  • Discretionary annual bonus program
  • Equity incentive plan
  • Generous Company benefits program
