About The Position

EveryMind Mental Health Services is currently recruiting a skilled, experienced, and enthusiastic mental health professional for the full-time position of Access, Intake Support Specialist to provide a continuum of mental health interventions to children/youth and their families. EveryMind is an accredited child and youth mental health organization that provides a continuum of high-quality mental health services for children, youth and their families who are experiencing or are at risk of experiencing mental health, social, emotional and/or behavioural challenges. Requirements

  • BA-CYC, BSW or related bachelor’s degree with 2 years of clinical experience in a children’s mental health setting, or other degree/community college certificate with a minimum of 3 years of experience in child and youth mental health services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Eligibility for membership in the appropriate professional association or regulated college.
  • Proof of knowledge of relevant legislation pertaining to children’s mental health, including the Personal Health Information Protection Act and the Child, Youth and Family Services Act.
  • Some knowledge of child and family development, mental health issues and community resources.
  • Demonstrated clinical assessment and solid decision-making skills.
  • Crisis management experience and/or training.
  • Active listening and strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Committed to providing excellent customer service.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence.
  • Excellent organizational, phone and computer skills essential.
  • Ability to work well independently, as part of a team and within the broader service system.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Adaptable and flexible in managing ongoing change and working in a fast-paced environment.
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check and Pre-Employment Medical Screening (including TB test, MMR, TD, Polio, Covid-19 vaccination), is required

  • Proficiency in a second language is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to all inquiries for those who contact WhereToStart.ca and provide clinical screening of appropriateness of referrals.
  • Screen for risk (e.g., suicide, child protection concerns) and urgency, make appropriate referrals (e.g., crisis support, walk in, emergency room) and/or follow through on duty to report protection concerns (i.e., report to child welfare).
  • Ensure appropriate information and community resources are provided to callers, caregivers, youth and, physician or community professional.
  • Manage, screen and outreach to youth and families for all third party and physician referrals received.
  • Initiate correspondence and other necessary follow-up procedures for third party and physician referrals.
  • Obtain and review proper releases of information, as required.
  • Maintain awareness and be responsive to the diverse needs of the community as it pertains to accessing child and youth mental health services.
  • Coordinate service access for individuals who require an interpreter or need support with transportation in reducing barriers in accessing services.
  • Maintain accurate and current records and reports, correspondence, statistics and data entry requirements.
  • Maintain current information on all available internal and external services and programs.
  • Complete group registrations with caregivers and youth.
  • Manage cancellation list and reschedules intake appointments as needed to efficiently keep all intake availabilities booked.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and other community agency personnel.
  • Forward requests for community presentations/information fairs related to child and youth mental health services to the Corporate Communications team.
  • Identify and communicate issues requiring attention and/or consultation and direction for follow-up with manager.
  • Participate and contribute to the development of the network, quality improvement of processes and the evaluation of the network.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled team meetings and access supervision and consultation with the manager, as required.
