About The Position

The Academic Support Specialist will collaborate with the building principal and educators in effecting positive academic change for students in the 10th Grade Cohort by developing interventions and utilizing Learning Center Support, to recover academic credits using online credit recovery resources. The Academic Support Specialist will work with staff in tracking academic data of students.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and written in order to communicate with others inside and outside of the organization, for the purpose of giving and obtaining information
  • Basic computer proficiency and the ability to effectively use Microsoft Word and Outlook which may be determined and validated by testing
  • Use of good judgment to make decisions on recurring assignments
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a supervisor when their discretion is needed
  • Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance
  • Knowledge of district's mission, purpose, goals and the role of every employee in achieving each of them

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 2-3 Years experience in providing positive behavior support interventions with students preferred

  • Displays the ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively with parents and professionals
  • Displays the ability to collaborate with all members of the school community
  • Demonstrates confidentiality when dealing with students, parents, and school employees
  • Understands and works with the various support systems available in the school and community
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills
  • Provides attendance support for chronically absent students
  • Serves as a School-to-Home Liaison which includes making and receiving phone calls and facilitating cohort home visits
  • Possesses an understanding of educational curriculum and instructional methods, strength in mathematics is essential
  • Analyzes and maintains academic progress and attendance data
  • Provides guidance and counseling for College and Career Readiness
  • Ability to set time frames, establish goals, and ensure that students track their progress
  • Assists with additional duties as assigned by Administration of Assigned School.
