About The Position

The Academic Planning Analyst will be responsible for ensuring that LAS is allocating its instructional resources efficiently while maintaining student success and progress to degree. Using various data sources this position will review, analyze, approve and finalize instructional resources for the academic units within UIC's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS). Will work with the LAS Information Technology group on improving and maintaining the college's instructional planning and reporting application including training end users.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education Administration, Data Analytics, Business Administration or a related field.
  • Professional experience in academic resource management, enrollment management, or institutional research in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated experience working with complex data sets (e.g., enrollment data, course scheduling, or instructional budgets).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret enrollment trends, forecast instructional needs, and make data-driven recommendations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial and personnel information appropriately.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Three or more years of experience preferred
  • Experience with database systems, reporting tools, or budgeting software is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Executive Associate Dean to evaluate requests for instructional resources, including course offerings, faculty course loads, TA and Adjunct FTE levels, teaching releases, and use of external resources.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with academic departments on instructional operational matters, including reviewing requests for additional resources, providing guidance, and communicating approvals or denials.
  • Manage complex operational adjustments to instructional budgets and course schedules, particularly during peak registration periods for fall and spring semesters.
  • Partner with the LAS Institutional Research Analyst to predict and track enrollment trends, monitor course enrollments, and identify underenrolled sections throughout the registration cycle.
  • Provide expert guidance to departments on underenrolled classes, student demand, classroom capacity, cross-listed courses, and enrollment optimization strategies.
  • Coordinate with LAS Student Affairs and departments to align course offerings with student needs and progress toward degree completion.
  • Monitor College course minimum enrollment policies, coordinate the closure of underenrolled classes, assess their impact on academic programs, and support long-term planning.
  • Oversee the LAS instructional planning and reporting application, including ensuring data integrity, managing year-end closeouts, and coordinating with departments for accurate financial and operational reporting.
  • Serve as the primary user-focused expert and trainer for the instructional planning and reporting application, delivering training sessions and supporting end users across the College in collaboration with LAS IT.
  • Support data visualization for instruction, enrollments, and budgets.
  • Provide administrative support to the Executive Associate Dean, including scheduling, preparing for, participating in, and taking notes during meetings related to instructional budgets and resources.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
